For the past thirty years I have been working predominantly in wood and stone believing in the potentials of these traditional materials.

When working in wood, I am inspired by the strength, resilience, and beauty of wood. My carving process involves a dialog with the material that helps me to uncover exterior forms and the voids inside. The voids are as important as the forms that contain them.

When working in stone, I am interested in a dialogue between precision of geometric forms and fluidity of organic lines. My work explores the tension between these two realms - the rigidity of the geometric volumes and the softness of the organic forms. The geometric forms in my sculptures symbolize the power of symmetry, balance, and proportion. The organic forms bring a sense of vitality.
